Taptite 2000®  – Thread-forming screws with optimised flank geometry

Why are thread-forming screws used?
Thread-forming screws are fasteners that, when screwed into core holes, create their own female thread by means of a non-cutting forming process.
A standard commercial metric screw can also be screwed into the formed thread (providing compatibility, for example in the event that a repair is required).
In recent years the use of thread-forming screws in industry has greatly increased. The main reason for this is to save costs during the production process, because there is no need for thread-cutting, cleaning, checking, or for tools etc. In the case of cast holes, for example in aluminium castings, there is no need for drilling. So the overall costs of a screw fastening can be reduced by up to 85%.
Furthermore, thread-forming screws are very secure against coming loose. This also generally means that there is no need for additional screw retention devices.
Moreover, during the thread-forming process, the nut material is cold work hardened, and this also improves the mechanical properties of the female thread.

Over the years ARNOLD UMFORMTECHNIK, based in Forchtenberg-Ernsbach in Germany, has become a leading development partner in fastening technology. Its slogan means “solutions that connect”. ARNOLD UMFORMTECHNIK works together with well-known companies in the automotive and electronics industries. Every day its over 450 employees work hard to develop and produce more than 15 million fasteners every day. Arnold is part of the Würth Group.
