Arnold Powerlok®-screws - mechanical screw retention devices to
counter oscillation and vibration
Arnold Powerlok® fasteners are mechanical screw retention devices
with a trilobular thread (see figure 1). They screw into an
existing metric ISO thread (tolerance range 6H).
Small 30o
flanks are rolled onto the standard 60o
thread flanks; these small flanks project beyond the nominal
diameter of the male thread. (figure 2)

Figure. 2 |
When screwed in, these 30o tips penetrate into the counter thread
(ISO 6H) with the effect that the screw locks into position and is
resistant to oscillation and vibration. (figure 4)

The deformation of the female thread caused by the 30o tips
is completed with the mechanical screw retention device in the
flexible area. This guarantees a high grade of self-locking
and the screw can be reused up to five times in the same
female thread. There is no lengthways and crossways movement
between the screw and the female thread.
There is no evidence of subsidence even in ductile materials.
Even where there is no head friction, Powerlok® Generation
screw fasteners from Arnold guarantee a high degree of
security against vibration – an advantage when used as
threaded bolt or adjusting screw.
The screws comply with quality class 10.9. And a greater
surface hardness is achieved by means of slight carbonisation.
Arnold Powerlok® screws are a fastener and screw retention
device in one. They replace mechanical and chemical screw
retention devices.
Assembly can be problem-free, and fully automatic
because there can be no failures caused by fasteners getting
jammed
The locking effect is not affected by temperature or by
ageing (such as frequently happens with chemical locking
methods)
Feed faults caused by friction on small plastic parts
cannot occur on oscillating feeders
Over the years ARNOLD UMFORMTECHNIK, based in
Forchtenberg-Ernsbach in Germany, has become a leading
development partner in fastening technology. Its slogan means
“solutions that connect”. ARNOLD UMFORMTECHNIK works together
with well-known companies in the automotive and electronics
industries. Every day its over 450 employees work hard to
develop and produce more than 15 million fasteners every day.
Arnold is part of the Würth Group.
