Remform® - Improving process reliability with direct screw fastenings into plastic

In view of the fact that for technical and economic reasons the use of plastic materials is expanding, the need for a low-cost and reliable fastening method becomes increasingly important.
This trend also places fresh demands on the screws used, especially in the case of fibre-reinforced materials. This has resulted in the development of new thread geometries that can guarantee the necessary process-reliable fastening. Arnold Umformtechnik has met this challenge with its Remform® screws for plastic.
The asymmetric thread profile on the Arnold Remform® screw optimises the material flow of the tapped plastic thread, because the forces engendered during assembly are guided in the correct direction by the asymmetric thread, and a complete guide thread is achieved along the entire length of the screw.

Radial forces when tapping with asymmetric Remform flanks

The Remform® screw achieves this improved material flow because the front flank of the thread has a radius, and the material can therefore penetrate to the maximum depth of the diametral core, while the steeper side of the flank (pointing towards the thread) permits much greater thread meshing due to the fact that the material pushed longitudinally is picked up, and this results in higher pull out resistance.
At the same time this Remform® thread geometry makes it possible to further reduce the radial stress (which itself can cause the hub to split). Very low thread tapping torques and high failure torques provide users with a process-reliable fastener.

Over the years ARNOLD UMFORMTECHNIK, based in Forchtenberg-Ernsbach in Germany, has become a leading development partner in fastening technology. Its slogan means “solutions that connect”. ARNOLD UMFORMTECHNIK works together with well-known companies in the automotive and electronics industries. Every day its over 450 employees work hard to develop and produce more than 15 million fasteners every day. Arnold is part of the Würth Group.
