ATP® – Save time and money with clinch fasteners from Arnold
Umformtechnik
Time is money: engineers at ARNOLD UMFORMTECHNIK are reliving the
old saying by developing clinch fasteners such as have never been
seen before. Removable fastenings are usually formed by threaded
components such as screws and nuts, while permanent fastenings are
more often created by welding, adhesives and rivets. ARNOLD
UMFORMTECHNIK has developed a fastener that can be removable,
permanent, or a combination of the two, in the form of a special
clinch fastener

The ATP® Arnold TriPress
is a clinch fastener in a wide range of types, with a
trilobular (triangular) shaped shaft (figure 1). Depending
on the load on the fastener, this shaft can be provided
either with a longitudinal knurl or with cross-grooving,
or a combination of the two (figure 2). Once the shaft has
clinched, high torsion and pull-out forces are achieved,
for the most part exceeding the failure moment of a
conventional fastener. |

To convert a permanent fastening, there is centred collar version
(figure 3), or a version where the shaft has a threaded connection
(figure 4).

Once the fastener has clinched in the normal way, both
versions enable other components to be screwed onto it by
means of a nut.
Uses for this clinch fastener are very diverse. They can be
used to fasten generator and electric motor housings, as well
as to fasten plastic parts and aluminium profiles.
The economic efficiency of such fasteners is evident in their
extremely short clinching times (10% of the time needed for a
screw fastening), and the fact that they are easy to handle
and are process-reliable.
Rivtex® – clinch systems for sheet metals
Unlike
welded screws and nuts, clinch fasteners and nuts such as
those offered within the RIVTEX® clinch fastener system from
Arnold Umformtechnik can be inserted at the same time that the
metal is stamped and pressed. The RIVTEX® clinching system has
been developed specifically for automated processing on the
follow-on die. The two products can be used on different sheet
thicknesses.
RIVTEX® clinch fasteners are inserted into the pre-drilled
metal sheet. The clinch fastener is fed threaded side forward
into the borehole in the metal sheet where it mates with the
matrix underneath. As it clinches the displacement lobes
underneath the head squeeze the metal into the locking groove.
The RIVTEX® clinch fastener can be used on sheet thicknesses
between 0.7 and 2.5 mm. The special displacement lobes beneath
the head guarantee a high level of torsion resistance, thus
ensuring that the clinch fastener has a high load capacity.
Over the years ARNOLD UMFORMTECHNIK, based in
Forchtenberg-Ernsbach in Germany, has become a leading
development partner in fastening technology. Its slogan means
“solutions that connect”. ARNOLD UMFORMTECHNIK works together
with well-known companies in the automotive and electronics
industries. Every day its over 450 employees work hard to
develop and produce more than 15 million fasteners every day.
Arnold is part of the Würth Group.
