Remform® – thread-forming screws for plastic for direct fastening

Finding a low cost screw for plastic parts that is both reliable and suitable for the material is becoming increasingly important, because for technical and economic reasons plastics are being increasingly used in industry. And with this trend, the requirements of thread-forming screws for fastening directly into plastics have also increased. In particular, the use of fibre-reinforced materials means that new types of thread geometries are required to ensure process-reliability in assembly. According to Thomas Jakob, Product Manager at Arnold Umfortechnik, using Remform screws to fasten plastic materials is the most cost-effective way of dealing with such a comprehensive challenge. By using this type of fastener system, manufacturers can keep the cost of both the assembly process and the fastener itself as low as possible.
The asymmetrical thread flank profile on the Arnold Remform® screw for plastics optimises the material flow on the plastic thread formed.

This creates:

- high overtorques due to optimised material flow
- low tapping torques due to low volume displacement
- a wide window for ascertaining the tightening torque (high level of assembly reliability)
- low radial tensions
- thin walled plastic tubes (~ 2xd)
- short plastic moulding cycle times
- high preload forces due to the extreme steepness of the load flank.
- high level of component operating reliability (due to higher clamping power)
- Remform screws have high load capacity due to strong thread core cross-section
- high resistance to bending of thread flanks at high clamping forces
- greater operating reliability when coordinating the load capacity of the thread formed
in the plastic with the stability of the screw, while making optimum use of the tightening
torques made possible by this means.
- high self-locking capacity in thread due to sloping angle of approx. 8o, and lack of play
  on the thread.
- low risk of Remform screw coming loose.

Over the years ARNOLD UMFORMTECHNIK, based in Forchtenberg-Ernsbach in Germany, has become a leading development partner in fastening technology. Its slogan means “solutions that connect”. ARNOLD UMFORMTECHNIK works together with well-known companies in the automotive and electronics industries. Every day its over 450 employees work hard to develop and produce more than 15 million fasteners every day. Arnold is part of the Würth Group.
